Tourist Attractions in Cromarty

Cromarty is my home-town. At the tail end of the Black Isle, it is an old fisher town sitting at the mouth of the Cromarty Firth. It’s packed with history, and many of the buildings in the town  today – such as the Court House, Brewery, Churches, and Cromarty House – are well looked after, showing what the town has been like over the years.

I lived in the same house in Cromarty from the day I was born until I left for University in 2004. In that time, Cromarty’s fortunes have turned around dramatically. There are a host of successful businesses in the town, such as Calico UK and Plexus Media. Pubs such as the Royal Hotel and Cromarty Arms are also always full, as is the local restaurant, Sutor Creek.

However, tourism is the biggest industry for Cromarty. Since I was a kid I’ve seen tourists flock to the Court House and High Millers cottage. Also don’t forgot about the Cromarty to Nigg ferry. Up until last month this was the Cromarty Rose, the smallest car ferry in the UK. Although the Cromarty Queen has now replaced her, I’m sure she’s still worth a visit.

So after living in Cromarty for 22 years, what other secrets are there? There are the obvious ones, such as the dolphin trips to see the bottlenose dolphins. However, there are also the hidden secrets too though, such as the World War One and Two South Sutor Forts. If you are into your mountain biking, why not try out the course at Learnie. Whatever your tastes though, Cromarty has a varied and diverse set of attractions and is well worth a visit.
