Luxembourg is one of the loveliest, greenest and most picturesque places in all of Europe. It has many historic sites, rolling hills and landscapes to boost. Travelers who have already visited this wonderful place can attest that the spectacular contrast in cultures makes it a must-see destination.

Things to Keep in Mind When Going to Luxembourg

If you are preparing to go on a trip to Luxembourg, you need to remember a few things. At the very top of that list is the weather. Luxembourg is prone to rainfall, hence, keep an umbrella handy.

Another thing to remember is that there is a so-called visiting season on this region. This is anytime from mid-April through October but if you want to steer clear of the peak season, then you can always go any time of the year. Those who find joy in wine tasting, though, would do well to go in mid-September because this is when wine connoisseurs gather together to hold the Grevenmacher Wine and Grape Festival.

Visit Old Towns

While visiting breweries is a unique experience, it would also be quite thrilling to discover the beauty of the old town in Luxembourg City. Enjoy walking on cobblestone streets, seeing grand squares and visiting underground tunnels called casemates.  The tourist train that goes through Petrusse Valley offers an open-air trip while the official residence of the Grand Duke welcomes tourists during the months of July and August. To cap your old town visit, you can go to the Notre Dame Cathedral which is noted for its 17th century architecture.

Medieval Shopping and Sight-Seeing at Clervaux

Ask for the 12th century castle on this town before you enjoy shopping at the medieval market. This castle now houses a tourist office, government offices, and the 1944-1945 Ardennes offensive war museum.

Religious Merriment at Echternach

Further east, this town proudly shows the most colorful religious dancers in the planet. These dancing processions are held annually every White Tuesday, also called Fettisdagen or Fat Tuesday.

Benedictine Abbey is also found on this town as well as the St Willibrord’s Basilica.

Feast Your Eyes on Museums and Galleries

If you want to bask in the cultural heritage of Luxembourg, then you should visit their numerous galleries and museums. The highlights, of course, are the National Museum of Natural History, the Museum of the City of Luxembourg and the National Museum of History and Art.

Where Is Little Switzerland?

Find yourself in the Mullerthal region and you’re right smack in Little Switzerland. This is a region of thick forests, numerous rock formations, and brooks with crystal clear waters. Those who love hiking would surely enjoy this place.

The main resorts are Larochette, Berdorf and Beaufort.

Visit Now

Unlike most European cities, navigating Luxembourg is not a problem. The folks here speak French, German and, yes, English, too. Bus and train fares are also reasonably-priced which is why visiting different areas is quite easy.

Luxembourg is a place of elegance and sophistication. Visiting this country will make you realize that you haven’t really seen all of European culture and history until you’ve set foot here.
