Known for the sun-kissed luxury that it offers holidaymakers, the Anfi del Mar hotel complex in Gran Canaria is a hugely popular choice for tourists making their way across to the Canary Islands to top up their suntan.

The Anfi del Mar resort in La Verga, Gran Canaria was founded by Norwegian entrepreneur Bjorn Lyng in 1988 and has since grown a vast amount, with del Mar now incorporating four different apartment complexes, with the Anfi Tauro resort slightly inland including a further three.

Gran Canaria - credit to Bookable Holidays

Whether you are staying at Anfi Beach Club, Monte Anfi, Puerto Anfi or Gran Anfi there are an array of excellent facilities available as part of the vast and glamorous complex that has simply grown and grown over the past two decades. The draw of the crystal blue sea is as overwhelming as any manmade structure in Gran Canaria however, and at Anfi access to the North Atlantic Ocean is wonderfully simple. The shortest of strolls down from your apartment sees the palm tree-lined green gardens of Anfi open out onto a secluded white sandy beach.

Water Sports

Water sports are immensely popular in Gran Canaria and for novices, the south coast is an ideal place to start, meaning Anfi vacationers have easy access to some fun-filled waterborne activities. The sheltered bays of Puerto Rico feature relatively still waters that are often ridden by beginners who have booked onto a course at one of the local sailing or windsurfing schools.

Scuba diving is also popular all around the island and it’s not difficult to find a certified diving school to help you explore the colourful underwater world of Gran Canaria’s coastline. With subtropical fish, shipwrecks and caves to see, scuba diving is a unique opportunity and some top schools operate just along the coast from Anfi del Mar.

To really get the adrenalin pumping, Puerto Rico and La Playa de Arguineguin also offer parascending, jet-skiing, water-skiing, and speedboat trips, as well banana boat rides and slightly more sedate activities such as pedal boating and sea kayaking. All can be enjoyed against a backdrop of an endless blue sea that shimmers under the constant sunshine of southern Gran Canaria, the area of the island that is considered to be the most scorching – with summer temperatures consistently in excess of 25 degrees Celsius.

Hiking and Trekking

In land the temperatures are slightly cooler, with the volcanic roots of the island leaving behind some stunning scenery. The Gran Canarian government have aimed to open up the island to hikers and trekkers by re-opening the Royal Roads – ancient paths that were once the only way to get around the island. The views are simply stunning and the focal point of Cruz de Tejeda is easily reached by car from Anfi.

Nightlife

A little closer to the Anfi timeshare apartments are the lively bar and restaurant scenes along the south coast. While there are several places to try in the neighbouring town of La Playa de Arguineguin – particularly within the Ancora Centre or Julia’s and Apollo along the beach – it is the trio of Meloneras, Maspalomas and Playa de Ingles a few miles to the east where tourists will find the best parties. With many bars open until 2am and clubs such as Pacha, Plaza and Kasbah will keep you dancing until the very early hours!

On Site at Anfi

The on-site facilities at Anfi are perfect for dealing with that next day hangover though. The vast apartment balconies are ideal for a lazy afternoon soaking up the sun, while the many pristine and luxurious pools dotted around the complex will help to cool you off. The on-site mini market will provide you with all the snacks you need, while if you’re in the mood to be catered for you can just take a seat at the pool side bar and enjoy the view. Whatever you decide to do while staying at Anfi del Mar, you’ll enjoy a holiday steeped in incredible luxury.
